:: Problems Ahead and Proper Solutions ::

1. Rate of Success in the education of the Hearing Impaired: Comparing to other disabilities, Hearing Impaired are lower in their academic performance. Only 10% of them are doing well in their academic performance and the rest are in the average level or below that.

2. Developing Sign Language: Most of the schools follow Oral teaching and the teachers are unaware of sign language and are not qualified in sign language. Parents of the deaf students prefer Oral teaching, not realizing the intellectual development of their children. Not knowing the proper meaning of the content, the students find more difficulties in their higher education. even though the teachers know very well that Oral teaching is of lesser use to the students and since the teachers are not qualified in Sign Language, they too support the parents and agree to teach the students in Oral and to develop only Speech. The most pitiable condition is to see the students fined for using sign inside the school campus in some places. Students are found, keeping their hands folded inside their classroom as instructed by the teacher and do signs when they are away from the classrooms, which is of no use. If they are allowed to show signs in the classrooms and interact with the teachers through sign language, they can develop in their academic performance. The Government should support the Sign Language categorically and legally, so that the schools will follow the Sign Language teaching and improve the knowledge of the students. There are deaf teachers appointed in many schools and they are designated as teachers for Craft, Drawing and Sports. Since they communicate with the students in Sign Language, the students could understand the concept very well. But this is lacking in the classrooms where their main education is given. So, teaching through Sign Language will be a proper solution for the above.

3. Research in Sign Language in different states: Although the teachers are interested in learning Sign Language, the only centre for developing sign language in South India is at IHRDC, Coimbatore, which is not approachable and affordable for the teachers at different states. Sign Language is designed only in English language and not in mother tongue of each and every state, where the state board syllabus is taught. So more research work has to be done to develop Sign Language dictionary in the mother tongue of each and every state and training to the teachers to teaching deaf students in Sign Language resulting in the improvement at the teaching level.

4. Supporting Deaf People: Many workshops and conference regarding the development of the education for the deaf are frequently conducted for the teachers. But it at scenes doubtful whether the extracts of the conference and the methods taught in it, reach the students properly. Workshop conducted by the Deaf to the Deaf students reaches the students in a complete form and is more effective and fruitful. So, the Government should support the Deaf people who can influence the students and create a major change in their education.

5. Influencing through Deaf Executives from other countries: Comparing the level of the deaf people in India to other countries, India is at the lower level. The steps and the method that the deaf followed in other countries to develop their education and living status will be more informative. So, their visit to India and influencing the deaf people will make awareness among the deaf and lead those to follow their ideas and develop progressively at arrive at a better place.

6. Deaf Members in the Government Organization: Only hearing people and officials are found in the Government Organisation for the Hearing Impaired. The actual problems of the Hearing Impaired may not be fully identified by them. Hearing Impaired can only know the problems they are facing. So including minimum of five members of them, as the officials of the Government Organisation and both (Hearing and Hearing Impaired) can yield successful working for both and can solve the problems of Hearing Impaired gradually. The association members taking part in the government activities will be of less use. The Hearing Impaired with higher educational achievements and having a wider experience will bring forth the desired results.

7. Cultural activities for the Deaf: The deaf to be encouraged to actively involve in the national programmes like tribal arts, dance and operation of various musical instruments. This method of hearing will certainly mitigate the hardships of gaining knowledge through textbooks.

8. Physical Education: This field will surely yield better health, letter awareness of clearing living and show the way to purposeful life in the days ahead. The future of our motherland depends solely the combined participation of all segments of the citizens in an equal form. "Awake, wise and stop not till the goal is scrunched" so said Swami Vivekandanada.

9. Deaf Vision 2020: "Vision of India in 2020" brought out by the Government will be a remarkable mile stone: The development of the Deaf should also be a part of that vision.
